EEG TEST IN AJMAN (Electroencephalography)
What is EEG?
Electroencephalography (EEG) is a non-invasive test that records electrical activity in the brain. It is primarily used to diagnose and monitor neurological conditions, such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and brain injuries. EEGs are also employed in research settings to study brain function.
How is EEG Performed?
During an EEG, small electrodes are placed on the scalp using a special adhesive. These electrodes detect the electrical impulses generated by brain cells. The impulses are recorded by a computer, producing a series of wave-like patterns known as brain waves. The procedure typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes.
Benefits of EEG
• Non-invasive: No surgical procedures or injections are required.
• Quick and Painless: The test is completed relatively quickly and does not cause discomfort.
• Accurate Diagnosis: Helps in diagnosing various neurological disorders accurately.
Risks and Side Effects
EEG is a safe procedure with minimal risks. Some patients may experience slight discomfort when the electrodes are removed, but there are no significant side effects associated with the test.
Preparing for an EEG
• Hair: Wash your hair the night before the test and avoid using any hair products.
• Medications: Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking as some may need to be paused.
• Fasting: You may need to fast for a few hours before the test if your doctor advises.
